Gurupoornima Rereat Sessions by Ma Gurupriya
Scriptures speak about the state of the householders. When old age approaches, the body is weakened by disease, property is taken away, and one is depressed. But men are still gripped by desires, attachment to household affairs, and are bound by strong bonds of fondness and affection. Men exhaust their life in maintenance of the family and fail to perceive the purpose of life. Being deluded, they are always undergoing grief and misery. In spite of seeing birth, old age, accidents, death etc., all around, they do not take to introspection.
One may have a good partner, unlimited wealth, beautiful home, and all objects of enjoyments, but a wise man with discrimination gives up attachment to them. When the mind is established in the Self within more and more, the worldly desires fade out. When the worldly desires fade out, the mind becomes cheerful, calm. A calm mind becomes fit to realize the Self.
Vairagya Shatakam says that there is no use of acquiring objects of enjoyment. A seeker must devote himself exclusively to his own Self/Lord. Just as sandalwood emits a divine fragrance when rubbed, when one constantly thinks about the Self, by the constant friction of the knowledge, the fragrance of Brahman will start radiating.
The wise people, with their mind engrossed in the Lord, with their life dedicated to the Lord, are content and joyful just thinking about the Self/Lord. Knowing that the same Self is within and also pervades everywhere, they become the Self and never fall from the knowledge.
