In this Satsang, Swamiji continues to discuss the profound verses of the Upanishad. It says that through knowledge austerity (Jnana Tapas), the imperishable, unchanging consciousness created the universe. Having created everything, He entered everything and became everything that is manifest and unmanifest, limited and unlimited, knowledge and ignorance, truth and untruth. Since it transcends truth and untruth, it is called ‘Satyam’.

Brahman created himself and he is the rasah (essence or Ananda) of everything in the universe. The Consciousness cannot be perceived by the senses, and it is free of any limitation. Scriptures say that the imperishable source of creation is unchanging, omnipresent, it transcends all forms and is the most subtle. It is the abode of fearlessness. If a seeker gets established in the consciousness, he becomes free of fear. But if there is, even a little bit of, differential notion in the mind, there is fear.

The Upanishads says that all the elements of nature, devas perform their respective duties out of fear of Brahman. The Lord of death also performs his functions out of fear of Brahman. Why do the scriptures bring in the element of fear? It is to emphasize the transcendental nature of Brahman. If everything in creation is working out of fear of Brahman, we would become fearless if we take refuge in Brahman. Those who realize Brahman become immortal, fearless.

Consciousness is of the nature of Ananda (bliss). There may be many factors in the external world which generate joy and happiness. But the incessant joy generated by realization of Truth and desirelessness cannot be compared to any worldly joy.
