In this talk, Ma Gurupriya ji discusses the verses of Upadesha Panchakam--the instructions given by Guru Adi Shankaracharya to his disciples. These direct and clear spiritual instructions are relevant for seekers even today.
Elaborating on the first verse of the text, Ma gives various practical guidelines by which a seeker can keep the mind pure, desireless and expansive. We come to understand how all Karmas are to be performed as a worship to God-- with no motivation, ego or possessiveness.
A seeker has to be constantly watchful of his own mind and should never fall in the trap of complacency. The subtle desires hidden in the mind can trap even the most ardent seeker. A true, dedicated aspirant should never fall prey to these subtle impurities. He/she should be focussed on the Goal of life and must keep on nurturing Viveka and Vairagya by being in the association of the Wise (Satsanga).
Ma says that it becomes easy to follow the instructions of Shankaracharya, when one is in the association of a Realized teacher. Chanting verses on Guru Bhakti, she guides us on how to develop Guru Bhakti, considering Guru to be God incarnate. By this process, the focus of all worship shifts from the invisible God to the visible manifest Guru. A seeker can easily progress in the Spiritual path by means of his Guru Bhakti.
