This video features Day 1 of the 3-day discourse by Swamini Ma Gurupriya on the theme Devotional Pursuit for the Householders, delivered during the Jamshedpur Jnana Yajna 2019.
Date: 26 February 2019
Venue: CIRD Jamshedpur
The mind is not peaceful because of desires, expectations, lack of dispassion, equal vision, and lack of reliance on God. The mind is gripped by ignorance and we swing between happiness and misery and we are forever in the quest for happiness from the world. In this Satsang, Ma says that a spiritual seeker must cultivate discrimination and dispassion. Withdrawing from external objects, he must have a regular spiritual routine.
Our mind is, usually, focused on world objects and our own desires to acquire them. Leaving this constant indulgence in the body and its possessions, understanding the worldly pleasures to be transitory, one must cultivate dispassion and be focused on devotion. Instead of getting attached to the perishable body and possessions, one should seek the imperishable Self/Lord.
When one is given to a regular spiritual discipline or pursuit, mind gets focused on the Lord and it becomes peaceful. When the mind is free of desires, possessiveness, jealousy, greed, anger etc., one has a restful mind. When the mind becomes restful, one is able to access the inner joy arising from the indweller.
Ma emphasizes that the seeker must focus his mind on the Lord and take refuge in the Lord. Getting rid of undesirable traits of the personality, he must cultivate noble qualities. The practice must be to abandon thinking about the past or future and make a habit of thinking about the Self/Lord.
