Normally, we live in the world thinking that everything is real. But at one point, the seeker starts enquiring into and differentiating between the real and unreal.

Anything real is present uniformly in the past, present and future. If it is so, we understand that everything in the world is changeful and so it is unreal. Our body, mind, intelligence, ego, wakefulness, dream, sleep are also subject to change. So, they are also unreal.

The body is inert; it is animated and activated by the changeless, inner presence. Throughout life, we use the term ‘I’, to denote ourselves. Everything in the personality is changeful, but the ‘I’, the substratum, remains changeless, being a witness of all the changes in the body, and the world. Understanding this, the seeker must take refuge in the unchanging presence, ‘I.’

All changeful elements have a substratum which is changeless. The understanding of the unchanging presence gives a stability and a purpose in life. Spirituality is always a complement to the transitory life. Self-Knowledge helps a seeker to live in the world, being peaceful, harmonious, and fulfilled.
