In this session, Swamiji explains those shlokas of Vivekachudamani which speak about the character, nature, and interactions of the knower of Truth and the role of the Guru (teacher) in the life of a sincere spiritual aspirant.
The calm and magnanimous saintly people live and move like the spring season, committed to the welfare of the world. They guide dedicated seekers to their goal of peace and contentment. They are constantly given to removing the suffering of others’ minds, which are caused by possessiveness, ignorance, doubts, delusion, and grief. Just like the moon cools down the earth scorched by the Sun’s rays, realized knowers cool the minds and hearts of people.
Shankaracharya depicts a seeker who is scorched by worldliness and wants to go across the huge, painful ocean of worldliness. This aspirant of liberation approaches the realized teacher and seeks instructions which would redress the torment he is suffering in the hands of the world.
The compassionate teacher immediately assures him that there is no danger for him and relieves him of all fear. He assures him that there is a way to overcome the tormenting worldliness. He promises to show him the same path which many others have followed and have finally reached a state of peace and tranquility.
