In this Satsang, Swamiji gives us a clear understanding of the intricate models presented in Taittiriya Upanishad. Through slides, he gives a summary of the models to help us understand creation. Through them, the seeker is urged to understand that the Consciousness (Atma) is the seed of everything manifesting in the world. When the seeker disassociates from external objects, then he will realize the Self.

The world we perceive is based on our five sense perceptions. Corresponding to our five senses, the perceived world is made of the same five elements. Through these five elements, the Upanishad tells us that the source and substratum of the gross world is the Atma. From the Atma, air is created; from air, fire is born; from fire water is created; from water the earth and from the earth various herbs are generated. From the herbs, food is created. A human being is made of this food (Anna). The same Atma is carried down through the elements and finally Purusha (human/conscious being) is created.

Atma is the source and seed of the Purusha. How to get back to the Atma? For this, the Upanishad presents a meditation technique based on five identities—from a gross identity to the subtle. Initially, a human thinks that he is the body (Annamaya Purusha). From this gross level, through meditation, he proceeds to the subtler Pranamaya Purusha and from there to the still subtler mind level (manomaya Purusha).

By meditating, one can reach the still subtler Vijnanamaya Purusha, which is the level of intelligence, where the understanding becomes clear. This understanding is possible only when the mind is pure and the intelligence is free of all delusions. When the mind is free of desires, and Raga-dvesha, he finally reaches the subtlest level, Anandamaya Purusha, where the whole universe is filled with Ananda.

Swamiji emphasizes that even in this subtlest level, the body feeling (I feeling) exists. But when the seeker transcends the wish to enjoy the Ananda (bliss), then he gets dissolved in the Atma.

Swamiji will be discussing 'Voice of Upanishads'. The Global Satsang will be based on Taittiriya Upanishad. | Live Satsangs with Spiritual Masters on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday at 8 pm IST/10:30 am EDT/ 10:30 pm MST.
