2015 08 22 Ma Malaysia
Vedanta Workshop Day 1

In this Satsang, Ma explains how one can make the mind stable, peaceful and happy. Having been blessed with a human birth, endowed with the mind and intelligence, a seeker must strive to enrich the mind.

Normally, the mind gets agitated, fearful and is under the grip of strong likes and dislikes. There is a fear of losing possessions, and a desire to accumulate more. So, the mind is not in a state of equilibrium. To bring the mind to a stable state, a seeker must make a determined and sincere effort.

A wise knower of Truth is neither tormented nor elated by sensory interactions and their impacts. He does not cling to them, but he also does not hate them. That is because he is established and reveling in his own Self. For him, every thought reveals only the Lord/ Self. For such a person, the whole world is a display of the Lord and everything is full and abundant. He is contented and blissful in his own knowledge.

The seeker must make a sincere effort to rid his mind of impurities like anger, dislike, intolerance, hatred etc. He must also cultivate desirable traits like contentment, forbearance, tolerance etc. Contentment is the greatest treasure and it is attained when the mind does not crave for more and more. A contented mind is a stable one.

Replying to questions, Ma says that a seeker must be introspective. He must contemplate on the ephemeral nature of the worldly enjoyments and analyze his own thoughts, speech and behavior and seek contentment in every sphere of activity. She emphasizes that contentment does not mean that one becomes idle and non-striving. Instead, one must do everything excellently, to the best of one’s capacity. How does one know that he is contented? Despite negative results, if one’s mind is not disturbed or depressed and there is a motivation to do better in future, then one can understand that the mind is contented. The contented mind is ripe and mature enough to accept whatever comes its way.
