In this satsang, Ma tells us that three things are very rare in life: human birth, a yearning for liberation and a close association of a Sadguru. Having all these three if one does not make any effort to realize his real identity, the Self, he verily commits suicide as he clings to things which are unreal.

Our life in this world inevitably brings three kinds of suffering, adibhautika, adidaivika and adhyatmika. To become unaffected by them is called liberation or mukti. We usually hold on to perishable objects like body, wealth etc for our contentment and happiness. But all of them are fleeting and hence cannot give us lasting peace and joy. We may even do japa, yajnas and many noble acts, but unless through all that we come to know our real Self, there is no liberation at all. Ma tells us there is a happiness, which is not dependent on anything at all, it is the joy from Self, which is always there. There is a state attaining which we will remain poised and peaceful through all interactions. For that we must approach a Knower who can guide us to that abode.

Ma says our journey will be easy if we have the disciplines called sadhana chatushtaya. It consists of 1) Viveka - discrimination between what is permanent and fleeting 2) Vairagya - dispassion for all kinds of enjoyment 3) a set of sixfold virtues: a) sama - restraining the mind and bringing it back to the spiritual path b) dama - restraining senses in their interactions with objects of the world c) titiksha - forbearance of all sorrows without any feeling of hate or retort d) uparati - to bring the mind back to spiritual thoughts e) shraddha - having unflinching faith in words of the Guru and Scriptures f) samadhana - to always contemplate on the Self and finally 4) Mumuksha - an intense yearning for liberation. A seeker has to constantly observe if these virtues are growing in him.

Such a seeker, who wishes to pursue the Ultimate goal of life, must go to a Guru and seek his refuge. A Guru is one who is well versed in scriptures, sinless, untainted by desires, a knower of the supreme truth, always dwelling on Brahman, peaceful and an ocean of spontaneous compassion without any motive.
