Parama Tattva Sameeksha Satram was conducted from December 19 to 28, 2025 at Sabha Niketan, Naimisharanyam, Thrissur.

The Parama Tattva Sameeksha Satram 2025, held at Sabhaniketan, Paralikad, Kerala, was a different experience this time. In earlier years, we would commute daily to and from the Ashram, but this year, staying at Vyasa Tapova nam throughout the Satram days enabled us to absorb the rhythm, discipline and spirit of the Satram wholesomely.
What I cherished most were the early mornings, beginning with Śrīmad Bhāgavata Pārāyaṇam. All the 10 days, we (my parents, Shuba and Prema aunty) would walk a kilo metre from Vyasa Tapovanam to Sabha Niketan. Enjoying the cool morning breeze, the profound silence of Brāhma muhurtam, the gentle sway of trees, and the soft crunch of dried leaves beneath our feet, nature itself became our companion during those ten days, silently guiding us in the early hours. During these early morning hours, Devap alanji would, on several occasions, offer my parents a lift to Sabhaniketan. His kindness and simplicity had a lasting impression, reflecting the spirit of seva and compassion permeating the Satram throughout.
Each morning commenced with Śrīmad Bhāgavata Pārāyaṇam, rendered melodiously by Swami Nigamananda Tīrthapādarji, followed by Sri Govindanji. Though distinct, their styles complemented each other with their clear pro nunciation, devotion and rhythm. The morning pārāyaṇam would conclude each day with heartfelt prayers led by Swami Nigamanandaji joined by Vyasa Tapovanam volun teers, setting a spiritually uplifting tone for the day ahead. After the morning prayers, I would often visit the nearby temples, especially the sacred spot where Poojya Swamiji used to do Sūrya-namaskāras during his childhood, as ‘A Great Association’ the book by Swami Nirviseshanandaji narrates. While standing there, the vivid descriptions of the book came alive before my eyes.
The discourses offered a profound exploration of Śrīmad Bhāgavatam, beginning with a beautiful rendering of Kuntī Bhīṣma Stuti, where Kuntī Devī’s prayer, particularly “vipadaḥ santu naḥ śaśvat” (1.8.25) was revealed not as a plea for suffering, but as an yearning for situations that dissolve the sense of ‘me’ and ‘mine,’ thereby destroying ahaṅkāra and leading to true surrender. The exposition on Bhīṣma Stuti further illuminated the delicate interplay between a devotee’s unwavering love and Bhagavān’s boundless bhakta-vātsalya (affection for devotee).
Another session unfolded Devahūti’s yearning for Kapila’s teachings, clearly elucidating the distinction between Pu ruṣa and Prakṛti and revealing that true bhakti is rooted in right understanding and discrimination. A particularly contemplative discourse explored Nārada’s instructions to Pracetās through a śloka-by-śloka approach, emphasiz ing that all pursuits – rituals, actions, and even scriptural study – find their culmination only in Self-realisation, and that Hari is verily the indwelling Self, the dearest of all (4.31.14-22). Several verses underscored the indispensable role of the Guru, and reassured listeners that Bhagavān never abandons His devotees (4.31.21-22). Emphasis that Lord binds Himself to the devotee’s heart solely through love, compelled deep introspection on the nature of one’s devotion.
The dialogue between King Rahūgaṇa and Jada Bharata was brought alive, especially through the powerful declaration “nāhaṁ viśaṅke sura-rāja…” (5.10.17), illustrating why our land is revered as Bhāratavarṣa – a civilisation where even a king bowed before a brahma-jñānī, Knower of Truth.
One of the speakers offered a detailed and contemplative perspective on mano-nigraha (mind-control) while expounding on Lord Kṛṣṇa’s divine līlās, particularly from Krishna’s teaching to Uddhava (Skandha 11), emphasizing that nigraha is not mere restraint but an inner stillness that arises when the mind dwells on the deeper essence of the message. Discourse on the Haṁsa Gītā (Skandha 11, Chapter 13) and reflections on who is truly bound and who is liberated further clarified that freedom is a matter of right vision and inner awakening.
Such depth, subtlety and philosophical inquiry are rarely heard in a conventional saptāham, making these sessions especially enriching and transformative to keen listeners.
In addition to Malayalam expositions, the Satram also presented English discourses that made the deeper principles of Bhakti accessible to a wider audience. Nutan Swamiji’s discourse on the “Inner Secrets of Bhakti Yoga” offered clear and practical insights into the inner transformation that devotion brings about. Ma Gurupriyaji, in her talk on “Devotion – a Sure Relief from Fear, Grief and Delusion”, compassionately highlighted how Bhakti becomes a powerful means for healing sorrow, easing inner turmoil, and restoring emotional balance. Together, these sessions beautifully conveyed that devotion is not merely a spiritual pursuit but also a profound source of strength, clarity and inner peace in everyday life.
On December 26, young students from Narayanashrama Tapovanam’s Cultural Heritage class presented a stage drama portraying King Parīkṣit’s journey after learning that he would die of snake-bite in seven days. With remarkable clarity and emotional depth, the drama traced Parīkṣit’s inner transformation, from the initial shock of impending death to his conscious choice of surrendering at the feet of Śrī Śuka, embracing Bhāgavata śravaṇam (hearing) as the ultimate refuge. The young performers beautifully conveyed how Śrīmad Bhāgavatam became a transcendental mahāstra – an unfailing spiritual weapon that conquers death itself.
Through powerful dialogue, expressive acting (abhinaya), and simple yet profound symbolism, the drama brought alive the truth that when one listens to Śrīmad Bhāgavatam with unwavering devotion, fear gives way to freedom and divine wisdom totally dismisses mortality. Despite their tender age, the children conveyed a timeless Vedantic message, leaving the audience contemplative.
Poojya Swamiji leading Nāma-sankeertana with Ma joining in.Every day, the concluding nāma-sankīrtana pradakṣiṇa was a highlight of the Satram. On the first day, Poojya Swamiji emphasized the importance of immersing oneself in nāma-saṅkīrtana and rejoicing in the Divine Name. Although Swamiji could not be physically present on most of the subsequent days, the spirit he invoked continued to resonate throughout the Satram. The chanting of “Hare Rāma Hare Rāma Rāma Rāma Hare Hare”, led in the resonant and soulful voice of Swami Nigamananda Tīrtha, filled the atmosphere with bhakti. Devotees came forward spontaneously – some dancing, some playing cymbals – all rejoicing together in collective, joyful spiritual attunement to refined recitation.
About 1000 school children chanting Vishnu-sahasranāma in chorus (Dec 25)An especially heartening segment of the Satram was the chorus Viṣṇu-sahasranāma recitation, where about thousand young students from various schools came together and recited Sahasranāma twice. Poojya Swamiji was visibly delighted on hearing the young voices with such devotion and clarity. He fondly shared glimpses from his own childhood, recalling how he too found immense joy in reciting, and lovingly encouraged the children to cultivate this sacred habit from a young age. The occasion also witnessed the felicitation of prize winners of the Śrīmad Bhāgavatam competitions, with some of the children gracing the stage through soulful recitations from Śrīmad Bhāgavatam.
Although Poojya Swamiji conducted fewer sessions this year, not once did it feel that his poor health was a constraint. From the moment he took the stage, his thunderous voice and powerful presence set the tone for the Satram.
On the ninth day, while unveiling the profound jewels of Uddhava Gītā and beautifully summarising the essence of the entire Parama Tattva Sameeksha Satram, one moment left me completely wonderstruck – Swamiji earnestly encouraged everyone to learn and internalise the śloka:
nirapekṣaṃ muniṃ śāntaṃ nirvairaṃ sama-darśanam
anuvrajāmy-ahaṃ nityaṃ pūyeyety-aṅghri-reṇubhiḥ
(Śrīmad Bhāgavatam 11.14.16)
Though I had heard this śloka earlier, listening to it in Swamiji’s voice sent spiritual vibrations in me. The impact of his words was immediately visible. It was very touching to see the innocent villagers gather around the bookstall immediately after the discourse, earnestly asking for the śloka number. Swamiji had asked everyone to memorise this verse, and the response was spontaneous and overwhelming. The bookstall soon became a place of eager inquiry, with everyone seeking the exact reference.
Another śloka that Swamiji emphasised was khaṃ vāyum-agniṃ salilaṃ mahīmś-ca. Watching the simple, devoted villagers absorb and treasure Swamiji’s words, brought tears to my eyes. Their reverence and sincerity reflected how deeply they valued every teaching Swamiji shared.
Havan along with the chants. Special ventilation arrangements this year reduced smoke inside the hall. The Parama Tattva Sameeksha Satram concluded on an auspicious note with the Viṣṇu-sahasranāma Samūha Mahāyajña, attended by over 3000 devotees. Preparations for this sacred yajña began a day in advance, with numerous volunteers coming together in a spirit of devotion and joyful service. Some meticulously cleaned flowers, others washed and arranged the lamps, while a few applied chandan and kumkum to each lamp. Several volunteers adorned the space with beautiful kolams, transforming the entire venue into Vaikuntha.
It was heartwarming to witness devotees working tirelessly and harmoniously through the night, united by a shared sense of purpose and reverence, all in anticipation of the grand finale.
Next morning, devotees gathered in large numbers for the yajña, attentively following the instructions of Poojya Swamiji, Nutan Swamiji and Ma. As the sacred names of Lord Viṣṇu resonated through the air, offerings of flower petals were made with devotion and precision. The smoke from the havan kuṇḍa was ingeniously exhausted, and volunteers ensured that every participant had an ample supply of flowers to offer during the archana, allowing everyone to remain fully immersed in prayer. As a sacred prasāda, Mokṣa Sādhana was distributed to all devotees, serving as a profound reminder that the ultimate purpose of such collective austerity is inner purification and freedom.
As the sacred proceedings drew to a close, Satram flag was ceremoniously brought down by Swami Devapalanji, marking the formal conclusion of Parama Tattva Sameeksha Satram. The moment was both solemn and fulfilling, leaving devotees with hearts filled with gratitude, clarity, and renewed spiritual resolve. The Satram concluded not merely as an event, but as a transformative experience, carrying forward its subtle, spiritual essence into the lives of all who were blessed to be a part of it.
All of this left me with tears of gratitude for the vision of Poojya Swamiji and Purushottama Swamiji, and their selfless commitment to imparting the priceless treasures of our culture. Every discourse, every reflection and every subtle emphasis felt like a deliberate and compassionate effort to gently yet firmly hammer home one simple, eternal focus: ‘Satyam Param Dheemahi’ – ‘We meditate on the Ultimate Truth’. The Parama Tattva Sameeksha Satram stood as one of the many profound means through which Poojya Swamiji continues to instil this wisdom in us. We remain humbled with nothing more to offer than our heartfelt gratitude.
Jai Guru!
