In this talk, Swami Bhoomananda Tirtha quotes Adi Shankaracharya to drive home the point that any sadhana that is non-experential and creates doubts, should be left aside. A seeker’s sadhana should end in a doubt-free mind and intelligence (Nirvikalpa). Nirvikalpa Samadhi is not an absorptional state, or even a thoughtless state like sleep. In fact, it is a state of absolute awareness, of knowing everything, of total fulfillment.

Finally with the sadhana, one recognizes and experiences the 4th factor, which is the same in all experiences, be it in waking, dream and sleep. When the doubtful intelligence leaves all doubts, and remains firm and unflickering, that is the supreme state. So, the supreme state is a state of clarity and the resultant stillness the mind and the intelligence get to.
